The shape of this piece is like a tea bowl for matcha, with colors of bright green like matcha tea. The title of this piece evokes an image of a woman wearing a kimono, but the water plants depicted also remind us of Monet’s water lilies. The impressionist Monet was greatly influenced by Japanese art and created his own unique style, and Junko Takao’s work is similar in a sense that though they are Japanese, they also have a very Western feel to them. Additionally, the texture of the glass changes, showing a different face depending on how the glass is lit and the strength of the light. Even in photos, you can note the difference in color and glow from the upper and lower halves.
