One characteristic of Junko Takao’s work is the use of geometric and symmetric compositions. This piece is also an example of this and the shaped are repeated left to right, top to bottom and spread out. The world depicted here looks like that seen through a kaleidoscope. Though it is a still picture, the repetitive patterns and expansion give one a sense almost like movement. And within the movement, you can almost hear the music. This symmetric pattern creates a sense of noble and somber dignity and though very few colors are used, there is a quiet sense of opulence.
